If laughter is contagious than surely Smiles, laughter’s cousin, often generates a chain reaction. Sometimes our smile seems so second nature to us, so much so that we often discount this simple, powerful and healing gesture. However, when someone is grappling with serious illness, a shared smile acts as a life-raft, reminding us that we’re part of something larger than ourselves. In our harried, 24/7 fast-paced lives, it’s comforting to know that my smile demands no advance planning, it’s completely free, and it requires no effort. When we remember to share from the deepest place within us, than we can truly give and receive smiles and good energy from others. This simple interaction will, no doubt, generate many smiles to come.
