Soaringwords Salutes PS152 Students

375 students at PS 152 enjoyed a six week Soaringwords Educational Outreach program which ran from March 31 to May 12. This program was funded in part by Newman's Own Foundation and ConEd.

Each week the students enjoyed a short Soaringwords assembly and then went to their classrooms where teachers and Soaringwords volunteers shared hands-on language and expressive arts activities including: SoaringHaikus, Stories from Around the World, SoaringBeds, SoaringSuperHeroes, Native American Animals, and SoaringFables based on Fables from Aesop. All of the stories, poems and artwork that the children created are shared with hospitalized children. All of the artwork can be printed to decorate hospital rooms and patient lounges.

Here are some SoaringHaikus and SoaringBeds.

The children were proud and thrilled to be able to do something tangible and exciting to benefit hospitalized children. The teachers appreciated having engaging activities that motivated the students to spend time writing and strengthening communications skills. The volunteers enjoyed having the chance to mentor so many bright and enthusiastic children.
