Lisa Buksbaum's Monthly Letter: February, 2007
Waz
up?
February is all about LOVE. It’s brutally cold outside and my
thoughts turn to spending five extra minutes under the covers.
I must confessthis month I actually had some second thoughts
on venturing out in the cold air for my morning swim. (I swam
anyway because after the first lap my body always says thank
you!). Of course, during this time of year, thanks to our friends
at Hallmark, we’re thinking about those we love and care. Funny,
at Soaringwords we’re constantly thinking about sharing love,
inspiration and joy with ill children and their families. This
month we already led ten events where we decorated SoaringHeart
pillows and SoaringQuilts to share with lots of hospitalized
children.

Photo above: Soaringwords at NYU. Student Scholars
and Student Council leaders mentored 50 students from IS 528.
Everyone decorated quilts and pillows to donate to hospitalized
kids on Valentine’s Day.
Soaringwords
We’re thinking about the spring and summer in a big way. I hope
you’ll join me on May 15th at the Soaringwords
5K Walk & Run which will be in Riverside
Park. We invite you, all of your friends, family and co-workers
to form a team and become part of the 5K. Click
here to learn more.
We are looking for corporate teams, school teams, teams of
your friends and family, church or synagogue to sign up. It
will be a fantastic evening and we hope that you’ll pull on
your soaring sneakers and raise money to support our Soaringwords
Hospital Outreach programs. 100% of the donations will support
Soaringwords programs at Beth Israel Hospital, NYU Medical Center,
and The Children’s Hospital of New Orleans.
Soaringwords has secured two New
Board Members this month and look forward to
“officially” introducing you to them in my next letter. If you
know of any wonderful and talented people that are interested
in getting involved in Soaringwords as a Board member or volunteer,
please invite them to contact me.
Many of you have emailed me since the last monthly letter,
thanks for your feedback. As I mentioned, this is the year that
I'll fulfill my dream of publishing my first book, Soaringwords
the Power to Heal True Stories of Courage and Passion to Overcome
Life's Obstacles. Perhaps you have an inspirational
story about overcoming life's obstacles that you'd like to share.
Please email us so we can send you more information Heal@soaringwords.org.
Also, if you know of a heroic child and family of an ill child,
invite them to share their story with me. In fact, Dr. Ron Taffel,
a Soaringwords Advisory Board member and the best-selling author
of Parenting By Heart; and Nurturing Good Children Now, has
agreed to write a side-bar for the book. Billy Shore, Founder
of Share Our Strength and author of The Cathedral Within has
given us our first endorsement. I am starting to meet with agents
as the first step in having my book published.
